12th Grade Homeschool Curriculum 2025-2026

12th grade homeschool curriculum picks

He may be the middle child, but he’s anything but middle. He’s a servant leader with a sharp wit. Loves antique car shows, watching FI racing, and tinkering under the hood of whatever you’re driving. Big fan of reading Shakespeare and studying ancient history. But don’t come at him with American history; it’s not old enough. Has strong political views and enjoys a good satirical meme. Avoids cooking whenever he can, but loves to eat, especially if there’s rice, beans, or pasta involved. He's never met a soup he didn't like. If you can’t find him, check the gym; he’ll probably be there lifting something heavy. This fall kicks off his last year of homeschooling!

My middle son is a reader, writer, and indoor enthusiast. He's our resident introvert who needs plenty of downtime in the day. But don’t let his quiet fool you. He often brings the jazz hands in big groups. He loves classic cars, classical music, and classic literature. If you ever need a fun fact about Formula 1 racing or the Roman Empire, he’s your guy. Serve him chili, chili mac, or chili dogs, and he’ll love you forever. These days, he’s never too far from a thought-provoking podcast or a bench press. Conscientious driver. Closet comedian. He may be the middle child, but he’s anything but middle to us.

Stress-Free Logos Science Lab Kits for Homeschool

Once upon a time, I piecemealed our science projects together, gathering bits of this or scraps of that from around our home to create three-dimensional demonstrations of what would otherwise be two-dimensional concepts. My kids were little, the experiments I had planned were basic, and the lessons could be learned with simple household supplies.

Apprenticeship Tips for Homeschooled High Schoolers

According to Forbes magazine, hiring a plumber to snake a clogged drain will cost you $125 to $360. If you've got a tougher clog, be ready to shell out up to $800. A recent survey of 2,000 American car owners confirmed that only about 1/3 know how to change their vehicle's oil. One can only assume that the other 2/3 pay someone else to do it, which, according to Kelly Blue Book, runs them each anywhere from $35 to $125, depending upon the type of car they own and the type of oil it requires. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that when budgeting for a basic home construction or repair project, one should expect to add 20-40% to the total budget for labor costs.

It's the final countdown for my eldest son. He's got nine more months of homeschooling left, and then he's off to do great things for the Kingdom.

In the meantime, he'll also be busy finishing up the final credits I planned out for him using the Brave High School Record Keeping for Homeschoolers pack.

Here's what he'll be learning.

My middle son is an introvert who loves the great indoors. When he’s not listening to music, admiring his model car collection, or working on some epic Lego build, he can be found immersed in a story—either one he’s reading or one he’s writing. Naturally, I try to incorporate his love of words into his homeschool day.

Last year, I used the Brave High School Record Keeping for Homeschoolers pack to lay out a four-year high school plan that will hopefully help prepare him for his future post-high school goals.

Here's what he'll be learning.

9th Grade Homeschool Curriculum 2023-2024

9th grade homeschool curriculum

One would think the fourth time planning ninth grade would be relatively easy. At this point, it should just be lather-rinse-repeat. Right?

But the truth is, each of my kids is so vastly different from their siblings. They have different passions and different giftings. I'd be remiss if I did not reshuffle the deck from year to year and plan a unique high school program for each of them.

So, that is what I aimed to do as I was making curriculum choices for my ninth grader. After having some great discussions with him about his future hopes and dreams and after reviewing the results of a few different career aptitude tests he took this summer, I used the Brave High School Record Keeping for Homeschoolers pack to put together a four-year plan that will hopefully position him to achieve his post-graduate goals.

Here's what he'll be learning in 9th grade.

“I’ve never met a teenage boy who works as hard as your son.”

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard these words from others when referring to my second born. Dedicated. Loyal. Steadfast. He invites the unpopular kid. Looks people in the eye and speaks with respect whether the other person is 2 or 102. Puts down his project to help someone else with theirs. Loves eating Italian food, listening to podcasts about military heroes, and exercising. If you need a sheepdog to keep a watchful eye, work hard, and care for those in need of protection, he’s your guy!

10 Keys to High School Success for Homeschoolers

When I started homeschooling 15 years ago, I knew about a dozen other moms who were launching too. We all had preschoolers or kindergarteners. With high hopes and big plans, we stepped into the role of homeschool mom with relative ease. Sure we were fearful. But only because we were venturing into something new and quite meaningful.

Since we were only teaching four and five-year-olds, what harm could we do? we asked ourselves.

That first year was a success for all of us. For the most part, we loved it and so did our kids. But as the years went on, I began to notice a sad trend: more and more of those original homeschool mom-friends began to bow out. One by one, they decided that homeschooling had been great in the little years, but would surely be a slog in the upper grades.

"I've never seen a teenage boy work so hard."

I hear these words all the time with regard to my oldest son. At the home renovation of a family friend, at his lawn mowing job, at a landscaping gig of a fellow church member, at local and national Civil Air Patrol events--wherever and whenever he's tasked with responsibility, he receives audible praise for how hard he works.

This will serve him well in the years to come. Regardless of where God leads him, I know without a doubt that he'll put 110% into the job.

When faced with the task of deciding how best to educate her kids next year, a friend sent me a private message asking for advice regarding alternative options. She’s a working mom whose kids had previously been enrolled at the public school.

Our school district’s offerings for the upcoming school year are less than appealing and she’d like to go a different route. Trouble is, she's just not sure she can hold up an entire homeschool and put in a full day of work.

40+ MUST READ Books for Christian Teen Boys

High school is a time when the loose opinions of childhood begin to solidify. It's a time when many Christian teens begin to stand on their own faith legs and develop a worldview that is autonomous to that of their parents. Contrary to the popular trend of extended immaturity, the teen years can be a time when God can use a person in ways that He can not use them at any other time in their lives. Teens have free schedules, growing passions, and liberal amounts of physical energy. When aimed in the right direction, a teen can do great things for the cause of Christ.

Best Homeschool Resources for Planning a College and Career

Mom and homeschooled teen

Currently, two of my kids are in high school. One is taking dual-enrollment courses through a local Christian university. The other is not. One has college aspirations after graduating high school. The other has his sights set on service. One entered her teen years not knowing exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up. The other decided on his long-term goal before turning four. (No joke.)

They are very different teens with very different personalities. Consequently, their career paths will be quite different.

When creating each of their 4-year high school plans, I could not cookie-cutter my way through. I had to design a unique educational experience for both of them. I had to create plans that would not only ensure they met our state's high school graduation requirements but that would prepare them for their post-secondary years.

You CAN Create a high school transcript, Homeschool Mom!

Mom creating high school transcript

Twenty years ago, I spent several hundred dollars to take Tests & Measurements, a junior-level course in teacher's college. I slogged through lectures, power points, and sample scenarios in order to learn how to properly assess, measure, and award credit.

After teaching in the classroom for seven years and homeschooling the last 13, I've learned two things about tests and measurements. First, while that college-level class was certainly helpful, it could have been summed up in a pamphlet or a short, one-day workshop. And second, when your kids enter the upper grades, you don't have to have a bunch of letters behind your name to create a watertight high school transcript.

But it's helpful to have some basic direction.

My husband runs his own graphic design/advertising agency by day. But by later-in-the-day, he's a picker. You've heard of a "picker," haven't you?

A picker is a person who scrounges around old barns, yard sales, and junk piles to find unclaimed treasures to turn for a profit. To be honest, most of the stuff he brings home looks like it should be sitting under layers of trash at the town dump.
