Welcome!

I'm a wife to my "Mr. Right". A momma of five. A maker of slow food and simple living. A collector of memories, a keeper of books, and a champion for books that make memories. An addict who likes my half-and-half with a splash of coffee. A fractured pot transformed by the One Who makes broken things beautiful. I heart homeschooling, brake for libraries, and am glad you're here with me on the journey! Be sure to subscribe to my monthly newsletter. Or, follow along with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google +, Youtube, or Pinterest.

Thanksgiving Unit Study Intentionally Uncluttered

Thanksgiving Unit Study Intentionally Uncluttered #homeschool

As is my habit with all major holidays, when Thanksgiving approached, I took a "pause" from our normal history curriculum to weave together a holiday unit-study.

Why and How to Implement a 4-Day Homeschool Schedule {Part 2}

Why & How to Implement a 4-Day Homeschool Week {Part 2}-The Unlikely Homeschool

In addition to playing the part of The Mom, The Cook, The Wife, and The Taxi Driver in this live-action comedic drama, I've also volunteered for the role of The Teacher. Unlike most teachers, however, I don't just teach one grade level and call it a day. Nope! I teach four grades all while toting a tot on my hip. But wait, it gets better...I do all of this while attempting to cram all of the chaos of five busy school days into four...and still stay sane!

Christmas-Schooling with 25 Christmas Writing Prompts

25 Christmas Writing Prompts: A Christmas Countdown for Homeschooling-The Unlikely Homeschool

Although not all of my kids love to write, they ALL love to weave words into captivating stories.  This year, I hope to harness that fondness of WORDS by helping my children create a Christmas Journal...a countdown to Christmas for homeschoolers...a chance to set the school books aside and learn through enjoying the season.

I've gathered nearly all my supplies, created 25 Christmas-inspired writing prompts to help get their creative juices flowing, and have resolved to set aside time throughout the crazy-busyness of the Christmas season for some narrative reflection.

I'm certain that the natural joy and wonderment of Christmas will help cultivate a love for weaving words in each one of my Littles.

Why and How to Implement a 4-Day Homeschool Schedule {Part 1}

Why & How to Implement a 4-Day Homeschool Schedule {with a video} Part 1 of 2

While I would love to don my Super-Homeschool Momma cape and effortlessly complete all of the needed tasks of playing wife, mother, and teacher five-days-a-week, I know there are only so many hours in the school week with which to complete all those tasks and only one of me to complete them. And besides, the Super-Homeschool Momma cape that I ordered seven years ago when I started this "little thing" called homeschooling is still on back order. I'm not expecting it to arrive anytime soon!

10 Faith-Building Christmas Gifts for Kids

"Mom, I know what I want for Christmas," my daughter proclaimed one afternoon.

"Oh yea," I said.  "What's that?"

"A leather-bound Bible," came her eager reply. "I know I already have a Bible, but it's beginning to fall apart and I'd really like a leather one."

And while this is not the typical wish list of most nine-year-old girls, it's not surprising that a new Bible is only one of three items my daughter has added to hers.

Pinterest Flips & Flops: Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

It's the second Monday of the month, and that means it's time for my monthly Pinterest Flips and Flops Link-Up.  I've been busy reorganizing many of my Pinterest boards to make them more useable.  (No sense being a "pin" collector.  I actually hope to DO the projects I have pinned.  Emphasis on "hope"!)

A Hearty Thanks From Me to You

My blog began as a simple way for one momma to reach out of her four walls and connect with other women walking the same journey.  But, it has turned into so much more.

Because of you!

Thank you so much for all of your support this past year-and-a-half.  I have enjoyed getting to know many of you and look forward to our continuing conversation each day.

Learning the Scientific Method {with video}

Learning the Scientific Method-The Unlikely Homeschool

After a year of putting together homespun nature study units, I switched gears, took a big gulp, and plunked down a hefty chunk of change to purchase the entire Noeo Science Chemistry 1.  I typically do not buy all-in-one-box sets, but instead choose to piece curriculum together by buying some second-hand books and utilizing the library for all the rest.  (This post contains affiliate links. What We're Reading in November

What We're Reading: November-The Unlikely Homeschool

I don't know about you, but I love sneaking a peek at what other people are reading.  Whenever I am invited over to someone's house, I secretly glance at their bookshelves, scan the titles for any books I'd like to read, and mentally make note of them.  I head home and instantly add them to my GoodReads account.  It's a sickness...I know!
