Welcome!

I'm a wife to my "Mr. Right". A momma of five. A maker of slow food and simple living. A collector of memories, a keeper of books, and a champion for books that make memories. An addict who likes my half-and-half with a splash of coffee. A fractured pot transformed by the One Who makes broken things beautiful. I heart homeschooling, brake for libraries, and am glad you're here with me on the journey! Be sure to subscribe to my monthly newsletter. Homeschool Bravely: How to Squash Doubt, Trust God, and Teach Your Child With Confidence

How can I homeschool when I'm not smart enough? Organized enough? Patient enough?

I feel like I'm doing this all wrong.

If you're like most mothers, you live in a committed, life-long relationship with self-doubt. You hear the gentle whispers of worry and wonder if you can raise your children right, raise them well, raise them at all.

Since you homeschool, that self-doubt is magnified by the full weight of your child’s education. It would be so much easier if homeschooling came with a just-add-water-and-stir tag, but it doesn’t. It comes with a lot of worries. It comes with a lot of doubt. It’s common for you to spend your days feeling paralyzed, convinced that you're going to somehow ruin your kids. Eventually, your cloak of fear-and-trembling begins to suffocate you.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You were made for better things. You can thrive, not just survive in this thing called homeschooling, but the task will require a bit of bravery.

Can you be brave?

Can you be brave enough to trust God with your children — not just with their forevers but also with their here-and-nows?

Can you be brave enough to ignore the loud clamor and call of the world’s way so that you can hear God’s still small voice even on the hard days?

Can you be brave enough to settle for an imperfect homeschool, fully believing that it is all a part of God’s perfect plan for you and your kids?

Homeschool Mama, you need not fret or spend another moment wringing your hands. My new book, Homeschool Bravely: How to Squash Doubt, Trust God, and Teach Your Child With Confidence will cup your shaking chin, lift your eyes off your worries, and show you how to push through with courage.

Who is Homeschool Bravely for?

The new homeschool mom who has become discouraged and who wonders if this homeschooling thing is even sustainable.

The mom who's a few years in but who hasn't seen the immediate academic or spiritual results she was hoping for.

The mom who assumes that her lack of experience, her deficient household organization, or her shortage of daily consistency must surely be signs that she is not cut out for homeschooling after all.

The veteran homeschool mom who has grown weary in her well-doing--who after years of consistent homeschooling with little to no community support has allowed her self-proclaimed personal failures grow seeds of guilt and bitterness, resulting in a homeschool defined by drudgery.

Homeschool Bravely will help you...

Feel bolstered and affirmed in your decision to homeschool no matter how far along you are on the journey.

Learn practical ways to simplify your homeschool when you feel pressured by the tyranny of MORE.

Homeschool with confidence despite your fears, fault, and failures

Realign your focus to God’s calling on your life and your personal WHYs of homeschooling.

Because it will...

Dispel common misconceptions about education in general and the elusive “perfect” homeschool.

Offer practical applications to help you make your homeschool function in ways that work for you and your family, especially if you have one of those kids, a struggling learner, lots of little people and big messes, and naysayers who shout from the curb while you're busy doing the work.

Provide biblical proof that God’s plans are always good and can be trusted.

What folks are saying

"Jamie Erickson’s been reading your mail, and you’ll be glad she did! Even though I am a retired homeschool momma, I couldn’t put her book down. With humor, empathy, and Biblical wisdom, Jamie names our fears and calls us to stand bravely—putting our confidence in Him, not ourselves. While packed full of practical suggestions, Homeschool Bravely at its heart provides a solidly biblical framework for homeschooling with faith in His promises. If you believe God’s called you to homeschooling, this is the book to keep on your nightstand."
~Debra Bell, PhD, author of The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling

"A lifestyle of home education is not for the faint of heart! There will be difficulties to face and plenty of struggles along the way. But we don't have to let the challenges define our lives or our learning--we can face them, conquer them, and continue on our journey. In Homeschool Bravely, Jamie Erickson offers us both a beautiful pep talk and a strategic battle plan to keep us moving forward in grace and freedom, discarding perfection and fear as we go.”
~ Jamie C. Martin, author of Give Your Child the World

Practical Help + Kind Encouragement

With a lack of encouragement and a muddled vision, it's possible that you're contemplating a forfeit. You're not alone. According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 37% of newbie homeschool moms abandon ship after the first year. And those numbers increase with each subsequent year.

While bookstores contain shelves of homeschooling HOW TOs--books that speak in bullet points and educational formulas--they seem to be void of titles that combine practical help and kind encouragement, books that come alongside fearful mothers after God calls them to the deep waters of homeschooling.

Homeschool Bravely: How to Squash Doubt, Trust God, and Teach Your Child With Confidence will be both cheerleader and a mother-culture for you--a tool that can realign your focus and help you to climb into the simplicity that is homeschooling bravely. Practical help is offered, but it's always wrapped in the ultimate truth that you need most: God will use every part of your homeschool even your fears, faults, and failures to weave good plans for you and your kids!

  5. Hello! My sister just started homeschooling her kids, they live in Mexico and unlike here is not a common practice. I’m putting together a box with children’s books, some cards from moms that have been doing this for long time, stickers and I thought about a book exactly like this for my sister to have better tools and know more, but do you have this books in Spanish? 😉
