Sometimes I catch myself comparing the amount of time we spend compared to them. My children as well are at or above grade level though. Thanks for the reminder.Leannenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7628767515693863152.post-87802936774836304622017-01-29T12:21:43.358-08:002017-01-29T12:21:43.358-08:00Smaller parallel story here, but I had to go again...Smaller parallel story here, but I had to go against my "common sense" instinct a couple days ago, and allow my 6yo to experiment with different peanut butter & jelly sandwich making techniques. Didn't make as big a mess as I expected, and I was glad I'd allowed him the experience. I have my own memories of trying the exact same experiments as a child - using 3 slices of bread, for example. My husband and I were both homeschooled, and intensely grateful to our parents for making that choice for us. My best memories were made during that white space. :-)Sabrienahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05038227164201281080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7628767515693863152.post-14958785330936854162017-01-24T10:27:13.885-08:002017-01-24T10:27:13.885-08:00My concern is testing. When I don't check off ...My concern is testing. When I don't check off what's on the schedule I feel time has been wasted and therefore when it comes time to test at the end of the year they are not prepared. We live in Virginia so I have to send in the results by August. But, I would love to just let them learn together like this. Anyone else deal with testing and still have fun learning moments like these? All of them had done schoolwork in the morning and spent their afternoon gloriously muddy, while most children in our neighborhood were still sitting at desks, their every interaction carefully ordered. White space is a wonderful aspect of homeschooling!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7628767515693863152.post-2970995135330844272017-01-18T05:24:15.806-08:002017-01-18T05:24:15.806-08:00I agree.
