Creation Science Dinosaur Unit Study

Creation Science Dinosaur Unit {The Unlikely Homeschool}

Per my children's request during my 2014 end-of-the-year delight-directed curriculum planning, we started the 2014-2015 school year with a dinosaur unit. We learned so much and gained a new-found awe for God's creation and handiwork.

Below is a sampling of many of the books and resources we used and others we have explored in the past. Please note that we are YOUNG EARTH CREATIONISTS. All of these materials, unless otherwise stated, begin with a young earth worldview.

Buddy Davis: I Dig Dinosaurs

T-Rex Excavation Kit- This kit comes with the supplies necessary to bury the separated "bones" of a T-Rex, "unearth" them, and then reassemble them. The introduction portion of the instruction manual does present an evolutionary explanation of dinosaurs and dinosaur extinction.

Kids Answers Free Videos- Not all of these are specifically about Dinosaurs, but all present science from a creation perspective. The entire Kids Answers site is packed full of Biblically-based science info and activities.

Jonathan Park Audio Drama Volume 1: The Adventure Begins

Archaeologists Dig for Clues-This is NOT creation-based and comes from an evolutionary worldview, however, I found it to be a helpful resource for showing how the excavation process works. I strongly suggest reading it with your children and discussing how it contradicts the Bible at some points.

  1. Thank you so much for these resources! My daughter is very into dinosaurs and I don't think we've come across anything with the young earth view. We shall have to explore these titles. Thanks again for sharing, Jamie!

  2. It is so so nice to see a family doing a young-earth creationist view-point on dinosaurs. We just got done with our dino unit around here, and I WISH I would have had some of these resources, but you can bet I'll bookmark these for the next time we delve into this fascinating part of God's history of creation. Love it! The problem we run into here where we live is that we have a super uber liberal public library (which is weird because most of the state is very rural, conservative, and typically faith-friendly), which has next to nothing for faith-based children's lit. I thought about buying a copy of Ken Ham's book Dinosaurs (for Kids) and donating it to the kids section, but truly, I think they would throw it out. It's so discouraging. I'm perpetually asking for Christian science or young-earth creation books for our various studies and am met with tons of contempt and awkwardness. So discouraging. What an amazing library you all must have to be able to get such neat resources.

    1. Sadly, our town library is quite liberal, but we have a interlibrary loan system in our state, so I can request books from all around the state...public libraries, school libraries, university libraries. We are also very fortunate to have an amazing church library with lots of resources. I did however buy about 6 books at the used curriculum sale at our annual convention last year. Many of these books are getting harder and harder to find, so I wanted to be able to snag them while I could.

So sorry to hear about your library. My sister says the same thing about the library in her hometown.

  3. f you're an adult and you choose not to believe in science, fine, but please don't prevent your children from learning about it and letting them draw their own conclusions. - Bill Nye
Would you want doctors operating on you who had only read a 2000 year old book? Science changes and improves as new information is discovered and I would hope that in the future you would consider presenting current scientific information to your children to consider alongside your viewpoint.

    1. Interesting enough, the "expert" scientists didn't discover that the earth is round for centuries and yet, that "2000 year old book" has always noted that it was a sphere. (Isaiah 40:22) Throughout history, scientists have proven themselves to be wrong about many things.

For instance, I was told by multiple "experts" that I would never be able to have children. I have five...by birth. It takes just as much faith to believe so many of their theories as it does the Bible. You put your faith in what you choose to put your faith in. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. And believe His Word.

    2. I'm not disagreeing with your overall conclusions, but I just wanted to point out that at minimum the Western world for the most part believed in a round world since as long as we know. That's mostly a myth. There are some Hindu legends I think of a flat earth being held up by elephants.

  4. To the person who quoted Bill Nye...Unlike secular science taught in school, many young earth creation lessons compare and contrast the secular and creation views. This is not the case for most children who are only given the secular view.

Believing in a young earth and creation does not affect a doctor's ability to do his job (ask retired neurosurgeon, Dr. Ben Carson) or an engineer from doing what is required for that job. It is simply our religious view and interpretation of what happened in the beginning. We follow the same scientific laws and use the same technology as other scientists, and there are more young earth creationists in the forefront of science and technology that people think. What I find amusing, is that the bible told of many scientific and historical facts long before the study of science and archaeology discovered them!

There are many secular scientific "facts" that have little to no proof or evidence to support them, but they are still taught as fact. However, creationist theories are supported by science, sometimes more than secular theories.

Please do not comment negatively on something if you did not actually look into it first. Perhaps you should look into that "fake science" and compare it to what you were taught. I did, and that is when I realized I was a young earth creationist after all!

  10. Hi, I'm looking for movies, videos, shows, etc. about dinosaurs that my 5-year old son can watch that don't promote macro evolutionary and old-earth beliefs. Are there any such resources that you can recommend? I'm having trouble finding anything other than books. Thanks.
